  21. Description of Working Group:

  23.      The AToM MIB Working Group is chartered to define sets of managed
  24.      objects which will be useful in the management of ATM and SONET
  25.      equipment, interfaces, networks, and/or services that conform
  26.      to the relevant ATM and SONET specifications.  The initial sets
  27.      defined will be:
  28.  
  29.        - an interface-specific MIB for ATM interfaces, which is aligned with
  30.          the managed objects for interface layering being defined by the
  31.          Interfaces MIB WG.  The working group should consider the ATM
  32.          Forum's ILMI MIB for its suitability in this respect, plus any
  33.          extensions necessary to instrument the layers between the ATM
  34.          layer and the IP layer (e.g., AAL5).  The latter should be
  35.          take into account the work of the IP-over-ATM
  36.          working-group (e.g., the ``Multi-Protocol over AAL5''
  37.          specification).
  38.  
  39.        - managed objects for the monitoring and control of ATM PVCs and
  40.          SVCs, both in ATM end-points and in ATM switches or networks.
  41.          (objects for ATM SVCs will be considered after completion of the
  42.      work on ATM PVCs). 
  43.  
  44.        - managed objects that instrument devices with SONET interfaces
  45.          that conform with the relevant SONET specifications.  This work
  46.          should closely align to other trunk MIBs (DS1/E1 MIB, DS3/E3 MIB).
  47.          The working group should consider the existing Internet-Draft SONET
  48.          MIB for its suitability in this respect.
